The other day I was rumaging through some documents when I came across a letter, rather a write-up about an experience of a lifetime (for him). The young man is Dhruv, a Gabrielite, a person who had the fire to join the Indian Army. He finally achieved his dream; after joining he jotted down his experience which I am reproducing, word for word(so help me God):
NATIONAL DEFENCE ACADEMY

SERVICES SELECTION BOARD (SSB)
In order to get into N.D.A., a govt. organization that provides you the gateway to enter into the armed forces, you have to first clear a written examination conducted by the UPSC (Union Public Service Commission). Then, you have to appear for the interview called as the SSB (Services Selection Board) Interview which is conducted at three places in the country (for army wing) namely Allahabad, Bhopal and BangaloreHere there are trained army officers who judge you in three different techniques for four days and on the fifth day they tell you the result whether you are recommended for the army or not. The three different techniques in which you are judged are Psychological tests, Interview and Group tasks.

The very first day is the screening test of the candidates in which firstly there are two I.Q. tests conducted each having around 50-80 questions and time allotted to each test depends on the number of questions it carries. For example if you are given 50 questions in each test then the time allotted  will be around 25-30 minutes for each test.
After candidates give their I.Q. Tests, then they are to give P.P.D.T. (Picture Perception and Discussion Test). In P.P.D.T., firstly all the candidates are made to sit in a testing hall. After that all the candidates are given a sheet of paper to write. Then, all the candidates are shown a photo on a screen. This photo is flashed on the screen for 30 seconds. After 30 seconds, the photo disappears and the candidates are given 4 minutes to write a story on the photo they had observed on the screen. In the first 30 seconds the have to write the number of characters they saw in the photo, their sex, approximate age and their mood, whether they were in a positive mood(+), negative mood(-) or they were neutral (N). Next thirty seconds to think and write the theme of the story and the left 3 minutes to finally write a story on photo observed.

After the process is over, the candidates are divided into 4 to 5 groups depending upon the number of candidates. Thereafter each group of candidates is taken for the discussion on the story they have made. The president (Brigadier) or the Deputy President (Colonel) of the board, a Senior G.T.O. (Group Task Officer) and a Psychologist preside over the discussion. Firstly all the candidates are to narrate their respective stories one by one and then there is a discussion in which all the candidates discuss, give their views and try to come up with a single story. After the discussion of all the groups is over they are advised to again assemble in the testing hall where their results are announced.
For today, before it becomes too much to read, this much should be enough. Well, Happy Janamashthmi to All ! Till next time. . . .
